Tile orders fail when people divide room area by tile area and stop there. Joints, cuts, and pattern layouts all increase the count.
Core calculation
Tiles (raw) = Floor (or wall) area ÷ Area of one tile including joint allowance
Then multiply by a waste factor:
- Straight layout, rectangular room: +5–8%
- Diagonal or herringbone: +10–15%
- Many niches and cuts: +12–20%
Layout tips
- Dry-lay a row first to balance cut tiles at both ends.
- Buy all tiles from the same batch/shade for colour consistency.
- Keep 5–10 spare tiles for future repairs.
Use the Tile Calculator to convert room size and tile size into a purchase-ready quantity.
