About this calculator

Steel billing uses kg from diameter and running metres. This calculator applies the standard unit-weight relation so a cutting list can be priced before the bazaar trip.

It does not design beams. Barbending schedules, laps, hooks and seismic detailing come from the structural drawing. Undercutting 12 mm to “save money” is a safety issue, not an optimisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard SI/IS unit weight for round bars: kg per metre ≈ diameter(mm)² / 162, from steel density ≈ 7850 kg/m³. Then × length × bars × (1 + wastage %). Default waste 3%.
kg/m = 144/162 ≈ 0.889 kg/m × 12 m ≈ 10.7 kg before waste.
Only if you put them into length per bar. Straight-length take-off understates cutting schedules.
Same formula for mass of a round section. Grade does not change kg/m.
