How it's calculated

TDS = payment × (rate/100). Net to payee = payment − TDS, unless the contract states the amount is already net and tax must be grossed up.

About this calculator

TDS (tax deducted at source) is withheld by the payer on many Nepal payments: service contracts, rent, interest, certain professional fees. This calculator applies the rate you enter to a NPR amount so both parties see a net vs gross split before money moves.

Rates are not universal — a 1.5% building-related withholding is not the same as a 15% service slab. Always paste the rate from the current IRD TDS schedule or the clause in your contract, then use the tool for arithmetic only. Withholding is not the same as final tax; the payee may still file a return.

Do not use this page for salary-tax slabs or NEPSE brokerage. Those are different engines.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are common payment-type rates encoded for FY 2082/83 practice under the Income Tax Act 2058 (Finance Act 2082 — handler note: largely unchanged). Examples: 1.5% VAT-registered contract/service, 15% PAN service bill without VAT, 10% house/land rent to a natural person, 6% bank/FI interest to an individual, 5% resident-company dividend. Always confirm the current IRD TDS schedule and the contract clause.
No. VAT is a consumption tax on a supply. TDS is income-tax withholding on a payment. A job can carry both, separately.
When your contract or the latest IRD circular does not match a preset. Enter the % yourself; the tool will not invent a legal rate.
Only if that amount is the tax base. “Net of TDS” often needs grossing-up. Confirm the contract wording before you treat the typed NPR as the withholding base.
No. Salary slabs are a different engine. This page is withholding on a specified payment type.
Only for the VAT-registered contract/supply preset (≥NPR 50k in the label). Other payees or PAN-only bills use different percentages in the dropdown.
Not always. TDS is a credit against income tax. The payee may still file and pay or refund the difference.
No. The payer deposits and reports TDS through official channels. This is arithmetic plus labelled presets.
That is the preset encoded for “contract/agreement to non-resident.” Treaties and specific circulars can override — use Custom if your notice differs.
No. NEPSE costs are on the brokerage calculator (SEBON commission ceilings, SEBON fee, DP).
